DIM (diindolylmethane) is a compound produced in our bodies when certain cruciferous vegetables are consumed. Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower are sources of indole compounds. Ingesting indoles supports the healthy metabolism of estrogen. Two forms of estrogen formed by competing pathways are 2-hydroxyestrone, sometimes referred to as "good estrogen," and 16a-hydroxyestrone, sometimes referred to as "bad estrogen." Human studies over the past 20 years show that lower levels of 16a-hydroxyestrone support breast, endrometrial and cervical health. DIM has been shown to lower 16a-hydroxyestrogens and increase 2-hydroxyestrogens levels.
