The most recent recall (2021) of Lipodrene by Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals involved a single lot with an expiration date of December 2025. This recall did not impact any other lot numbers and was a routine occurrence within the industry. The recall was initiated after internal testing identified the presence of DMAA, a potent stimulant that was widely used prior to 2015 but has since been banned. Upon detecting this substance, Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals proactively issued a voluntary recall in compliance with regulatory guidelines. In May 2021, Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Norcross, Georgia, initiated a voluntary recall of one lot (#001211197, Exp. 12/25) of its product, Lipodrene with 25mg Ephedra Extract Dietary Supplement. This action followed an FDA analysis that detected the presence of 1,4-dimethylamylamine (DMAA) in the product. The FDA has cautioned that DMAA can constrict blood vessels and arteries, potentially leading to elevated blood pressure and other cardiovascular issues, including shortness of breath, arrhythmias, chest tightening, and heart attacks. FTC's Legal Actions Against Marketers of Lipodrene

In January 2009, a federal district court ruled in favor of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) against the marketers of three dietary supplements: Thermalean, Lipodrene, and Spontane-ES. The court ordered the defendants to pay over $15 million for deceiving consumers regarding the products' safety and effectiveness. Specifically, the marketers falsely claimed that Lipodrene was clinically proven to cause substantial weight loss, including a 19% reduction in total body weight. FTC's Ongoing Enforcement and Refunds to Consumers

In May 2020, the FTC announced that it was mailing refund checks totaling more than $8.5 million to consumers who were misled by such claims. This effort was part of the FTC's ongoing commitment to ensure that consumers are not deceived by false advertising and that companies making health-related claims have credible scientific evidence to support their products' purported benefits.
