Saffron contains safranal, the active component of the plant, which is considered too pungent for culinary dishes. Is There Any Proof Behind Saffron Extract?

A clinical study was conducted in May 2011 on a group of healthy and slightly overweight women over an 8-week period. These women were not restricted in their caloric intake, and were allowed to eat at will.

Half of the group was fed 1 capsule of saffron extract (176.5 mg) a day, and the other half a placebo. The women kept a daily snacking log, and weight and inches lost was measured.
